Increasing concerns regarding indoor air quality has prompted Health and Welfare Canada to establish guidelines for a number of compounds including 16 Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). To assess the problem, a national survey was conducted to establish background levels of VOCs. In preparation for the VOC survey, methods based on passive sampling devices were tested. The testing protocol investigated the viability of using the passive devices under different test conditions, including variations in concentrations, face velocity, temperature and relative humidity. Field tests have also been performed against a reference method to prove the viability of the technique. Over 26 VOCs have been tested.
